Memories of the 1920s filled minds as models walked down the NYFW S/S 2017 runways displaying a trend that keeps coming back: skinny scarves! There is not too much that you can change about skinny scarves, as they are scarves that are thinner than regular scarves. However, I did manage to find different styles and even styling options for you all to try out. Continue reading to learn the "2017" way to rock skinny scarves!

Simple and classy is always the way to go as displayed in these A Détacher and Jonathan Simkhai looks. These looks clearly display how the skinny scarf can be worn for both a fancy occasion or for a casual day. The Jonathan Simkhai styling is also mentioned further down!

There was barely a look without a skinny scarf in the Kate Spade show, and it was the epitome of the print trend. Bringing back the 1930s, the show had prints from polka dots to geometric patterns. Each skinny scarf either elevated a look or made it casual; hence, there is something for everyone!

Skinny scarves that were crocheted were all the rage in the 1930s, and Jonathan Simkhai brought it back this season. Adding jewels to them made the trend more modern, and Marc Jacobs had its own spin by making them velvet skinny scarves!

If the 20s and 30s haven't convinced you yet, skinny scarves were back even in the 70s! Along with Kate Spade, Monique Lhuillier updated the skinny scarf by adding tassels and fringe, which everyone knows has been trending!
Vogue | David Michael |
The last trend before the styling tips is the REALLY long skinny scarves. Diane Von Furstenberg on the left and David Michael on the right went back to simple and classy, but surprised us with unconventionally long scarves.

Now to STYLING! Usually there are tutorials for scarf tying with a hundred plus steps, but I can assure you this is the easiest one. Simply don't tie it. A Détacher and Marc Jacobs had looks where the scarf was just placed over both shoulders. Let the scarf's design stand out, while styling especially loud (bright, colorful, etc.) scarfs.

A Détacher brings it back again with styling these fringed scarves as bows.

In addition to the above styling, skinny scarves took on their nature as scarves and were tied. Dennis Basso added an extra tie to the already rotated scarf. Kate Spade played with matching prints and neutrals and tied the scarf in a front bow. Lastly, Marc Jacobs went straight back to how we started: a simple and classy tie at the neck. I hope you are convinced the skinny scarf is back and try out one of these styles. You might even be surprised to find these in your old wardrobe or even in your parents' wardrobes!
