I'm back after a hectic many weeks with another New York Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2017 post. Don't worry though, as NYFW Fall/Winter 2017 will be posted very soon as well! But let's jump into this post which is all about sheer! This trend was by far the most popular across all the shows and the number of possibilities in ways you can incorporate sheer into outfits is crazy. Read on to see the many more ways you can subtly to extremely include sheer!
Chris Gelinas | Gypsy Sport | Noon By Noor |
First off, Chris Gelinas, Gypsy Sport, and Noon By Noor all had looks with a sheer dress overlaid on another dress. If you'd rather not bare it all, this is an easy way to add dimension to your outfit. I also added in a jacket and romper, which you can throw over a dress or shirt.

In addition to dresses, designers like Bibhu Mohapatra and J.Crew brought out looks that overlaid sheer shirts. Placing sheer shirts over colorful or shiny shirts can downplay the look for a more casual event. Read on to see how you can reverse the same sheer shirt for another look.
Vogue | Carolina Herrera |
Here is the reverse, where you place the sheer long or short sleeve shirt under your dress, jumpsuit, or shirt. Revamp an old dress by adding a contrasting-colored sheer shirt under, making a whole new look with the same pieces; just like in these Bibhu Mohapatra and Carolina Herrera looks.
Dennis Basso | Tadashi Shoji |
Noon By Noor | Vera Wang |
Along with dresses and shirts, sheer skirts were all over the runway for shows like Dennis Basso and Vera Wang. Tadashi Shoji's look displays the paneling on the sheer skirt, where the Noon by Noor has a simple solid skirt or short under the sheer skirt.
Monique Lhuillier | Georgine | Rodarte |
If you want a more subtle incorporation of sheer, the simple sheer neck detailing transforms an outfit!
Anna Sui | Georgine |
Another simple addition everywhere is the sheer waist shown in this Anna Sui and Georgine looks. This is one of the most versatile applications, as you can wear it with a romper, dress, or shirt.

This is a bit more daring way to include this trend, but adding a side panel of sheer can totally elevate a piece, as shown in this The Blonds piece!
Jason Wu | Vogue | Jenny Packham |
A personal favorite is adding embellishments or patches to add depth to the sheer. If you are daring enough, rock a sheer shirt or dress with only embellishments, like in these Jason Wu, Boss, and Jenny Packham looks!
Lela Rose | Lela Rose |
If you are not a fan of mesh-like sheer, try Lela Rose's interpretation with full lace and color to add a pop to your look.

Dennis Basso | Lela Rose |
With one last interpretation for you, I have the easiest way to include sheer. Go for the details! The subtle sheer ruffle or sheer neckline adds a lot to your look. Even adding a sheer ruffle sleeve or sheer panels will keep you on trend.
Rodarte | Noon By Noor | Rodarte | Vera Wang | Anna Sui |
If you think you are ready for more, take inspiration from the above runway looks to go for sheer on sheer! Replicate Rodarte and Anna Sui's sheer embellished dress on another sheer embellished dress or go for Noon By Noor's sheer neckline with a sheer skirt. Let me know down below in what ways you try to incorporate sheer into your outfits! Also props to anyone that counts the number of times I said sheer in this post!
