The bell sleeve has been on the rise over the past year, and NYFW S/S 2017 just added ruffles to revamp the trend. I always thought ruffles were too outgoing for certain occasions, but many of these looks clearly represent dressed-down ruffles through the bell sleeve. The Karen Walker look above can be converted into a sweater over a ruffled bell sleeve shirt, if you want to add more dimension to your look than a simple shirt and bottom. Check out more ways to wear the ruffled bell sleeve below!

Vivienne Tam | Naeem Khan |
Delpozo and Vivienne Tam both had looks with simple ruffled bell sleeve, but emphasized the floral print. Wearing ruffles and floral can make the look pop more and clearly gives off a different vibe compared to if it was a solid ruffled bell sleeve top. Naeem Khan's looks on the other hand had the added element of sheer and embroidery, both very on trend as well.
Rebecca Taylor | Orla Kiely | Dennis Basso |
Going for a shorter bell sleeve differentiates your look. Rebecca Taylor, Orla Kiely, and Dennis Basso all have pastel looks with this trend, giving the outfit a certain vibe. I actually mentioned this same look in the sheer post (also previously mentioned). Check it out to discover more ways to incorporate sheer into your looks!
Brandon Maxwell | Karen Walker |
Layering the ruffles is one of my favorites, as it can elevate any dress or shirt. The Karen Walker look is just one of many that had this interpretation, along with the equally beautiful Brandon Maxwell dress. The picks below are just as gorgeous, and are from a wide range of styles.
Delpozo | Michael Costello | Delpozo |
Hellessy | Hellessy | Hellessy |
To wear an exaggerated version of the trend, go for the ruffled balloon bell sleeves. I really like how the Delpozo looks added dimension with an almost undone bell. The Michael Costello dress, similar to the dress and two shirt from Hellessy, had added trends such as embroidery or bold prints. This last Hellessy top is especially eye-catching with the metallic orange, displaying the bright color trend.
Scotch & Soda | Phelan | Scotch & Soda |
Everyone knows about the off the shoulder trend, but go a step further to stand out by adding the ruffled bell sleeves. The Scotch & Soda and Phelan looks above are beautiful examples of the cold shoulder trend. These looks are also distinct due to the varied necklines, which will differentiate your outfit from your friends'.
