The resort collections are rolling in and Chanel Cruise 2018 started it all right after the Met Gala. Compared to last season, the looks were more cohesive due to a less diverse range of fabrics, silhouettes, and designs. Read on to see the many trends Chanel brought out that you can incorporate into your wardrobe this summer!

Apart from bringing inspiration from Greek culture, it seemed almost contradictory that this was a cruise collection because many pieces used heavy materials like tweed and knit. The unrealistic approach made the collection even more unexpected, as Chanel usually surprises. The tweed was elevated for this season with fraying details and the collection had diverse co-ords, matching tops and bottoms. A few looks, however, did contrast the hard tweed with soft skirts, like this look all the way to the right. So if you want to switch up this trend, wear one of the below tops with a silk or cotton bottom, or vice versa.

Following the suits, looks with straight tweed or knit or crocheted dresses walked the runway. Below I added some tanks with this detailing too because I know not everyone enjoys rocking dresses. Switch it up this summer season with a tank and skirt over a dress.

I found this look especially interesting because some would call it a pinafore, where others would label it as an overall dress. Nevertheless, I think it is a cute way to dress up without being too unconventional.

Pleats are still in season and boy did Chanel have a ton of these looks. I believe I narrowed down these photos from over ten looks because there were so many variations of pleated pants and skirts. Wide leg pleated pants are an upgraded bottom for this season, and change up the pleated skirt with going with a mini over a midi. This last look on the right also has small layered pleats that elevated the maxi; something new to try out!

The trend most talked about and similar to the Grecian theme were the gladiator sandals that pretty much every look possessed. From dresses to pants the sandals were either on full display or hidden partially, like in the middle look. Many outfits also had the sandals matching the bags' colors, which is a good tip if you ever want to coordinate a bag with your outfit!

With every runway show, there needs to be something unconventional and here it were the pieces I've dubbed "clear robes". Almost like a beach cover up, that probably doesn't do much, Chanel had an ornate but modern approach to beachwear in this cruise collection.

Speaking of unconventional and heavy fabrics, these looks seem like the formal dinner outfits you need to wear on a cruise. However, apart from the ornate embroidery, the look on the right had a cute way of incorporating the sweater, by throwing it over an almost hidden skirt or dress.

When I first started to look into pieces that you could use to replicate these two looks, I was saved when ASOS labeled the cinched waist here as "shirred-fabric". Whatever it is called, switch out the classic little black dress with this "shirred" trend.

With a two in one, these looks, along with, an exaggerated, hundred more, returned the headband trend with a few outfits possessing "gladiator" gloves too. They probably have a name, but if you spot gloves with buckles, you can assume they'll be fashionable this season. So pull out those old headbands and no finger gloves to replicate Chanel's cruise collection.
