The idea of getting inspiration from menswear or blurring the lines between gender specific fashion has been on the rise, catalyzing the deconstruction of gender labels. Examples of people, who identity as women, sporting suits to a formal event are vast, and this is clearly displayed in Vogue's August 2017 cover shoot. Gigi Hadid and Zayn Malik grace the cover in all Gucci, both wearing suits that definitely have some color and pattern to them. Each of these three editorial shots have different takes on the suit. The first, a full Prada look, plays with fabrics, as they seem to be wearing something like, if not corduroy itself. Next time, try on a full velvet or corduroy suit; a subtle way to challenge the conventional suit. Just as in the cover, the patterned suit makes an appearance. Be bold with a fully patterned suit, or just have one eccentric piece. If fabric nor pattern are your cup of tea, steer from the black on black. You don't necessarily have to go full bright red like the Dries Van Noten suit in the last shot, but try dark shades of purple or burgundy. This change in fabric, pattern, or color can instantly transform your look, whether it is with a suit or just a regular shirt. Next time you shop, look in all sections of stores because you may never know what you might find in a section that is not marketed towards you.
